“We must learn to live together as brothers, or we will perish together as fools” (King, para.1). This quote speaks to the African-American experience and the voices of Angelou, Hughes, and Mackay, and although they may be separated by time, we can learn from their past. African- American have been humiliated, mistreated, and segregated, tortured, and slaughtered. These injustices are brought to life in these represented poems.

Body Paragraph #1:

The poem Harlem by Langston Hughes is considered a foundational work, and it is representative of the African-American experience. Langston supports that we should achieve our dream despite the circumstances, “What happens to a dram deferred?”. Langston believes no matter what we shouldn’t let anyone despair our dreams. One example is “Or does it explode” (Harlem, p.528) ……….(EXPLAIN WHY IS AN EXAMPLE) (FINISH THE ESSAY AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS)
