Writing Plan
My argument that I am addressing in my persuasive essay is the awareness of depression and anxiety. I know that I will be able to not only bring awareness to people about the illness. As I study my major in psychology, I will learn on a even more depth insight how to help people. I want to work with youth in this field. I strongly believe that if we reach out to the children that struggle with depression and anxiety, as adults they will have more knowledge and know how to recognize the triggers. How to seek help and where to go get the necessary help when needed.
The three key points for my topic is depression and anxiety are something that many people deal with. It is a medical illness that is sometimes looked at like it is not a real medical condition or taken lightly. I want to bring awareness to this condition. The key point show evidence to support that argument: the sources they use are counseling, visiting with Doctor for medication, also inpatient and outpatient treatment to help study and gather further data on the mental condition as well as assist with getting to the root of the depression and anxiety.
The audience that I hope to reach is mostly the people that struggle with depression and anxiety. The challenges that I will face is in today society a lot of people still don’t believe that depression and anxiety is a real medical issue, and it should not be taken lightly. Bring awareness that there are many levels from mild to severe cases. Providing valid resources that can be referenced to evaluate the level of treatment needed. Also, being a support system for the family and friends that will be support teams for person dealing with the medical condition.
The goals that I hope to achieve is provide valid information and resources for any and every one that need and want to learn about depression and anxiety. Whether it’s for a person that is facing the mental challenges or a family or friend that want information to be a helper to someone. In order for this essay to be successful I need to make sure I have valid and updated resources. Correct contact numbers and make sure that I have a toll-free number so that my essay is not limited to helping people in only my area. Recent studies show "MDD affects more than 16.1 million American adults, or about 6.7%of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year." Adaa.org. Also "GAD affects 6.8 million adults, or 3.1% of the U.S. population, yet only 43.2% are receiving treatment.
Women are twice as likely to be affected as men.”. adaa.org.
The resources that I used as pieces of evidence to support my argument is Anxiety and Depression Association of America website www.adaa.org. This website show that recent studies show that depression and anxiety is a medical condition that is commonly not treated.
Austin Oaks Mental Hospital is an inpatient/outpatient facility that provide evaluation and treatment plans for aftercare. They also provide outsourcing information and agency in our local community that van also assist with future care and counseling.
www.everydayhealth.com this website also provides information as well as symptoms and resources. To help get assessments and evaluation.
Integrate care provide intake for outpatient services. Provide a case manager to assist with making sure you can get the information needed. They also have an onsite doctor that can provide u with medication, they offer therapy treatment for you and your family if needed.
My key point arguments align with my supporting resources, because they are also trying to bring awareness to the world about depression and anxiety. They are offering the resources to help. They are providing data to show that this is a serious issue that if not treated could possible result in hospitalization as well as in some server cause death. The resources are basically showing there is help and people that care.
Based on my argument I feel that inpatient or outpatient treatment at a licensed facility would be most effective for evaluating and placing a treatment plan into action. I fell this could be most effective because it gives the person and family or friend the insight on what is really going on. It also can allow the person to speak with someone that is skilled in this situation to better assist in figuring out the level of care, triggers and if medication and counseling is needed to help with treatment. It also brings awareness that the person dealing with depression and anxiety is not alone. Its real and something other than stress is causing the feeling and symptoms they are feeling.
A revision strategy that would be most effective while writing this essay is to make sure that I research the information that I am providing. Cross reference the supporting evidence and sites that I am using to make sure they are valid and have the correct credentialing to provide information I am using for my essay. I would also proof read my essay to make check for correct grammar and punctuation. Make sure that my sentences and information provided has a nice flow and meet all requirements per assignment guidelines and rubric.
I can improve my essay from outside parties as well as receiving feedback, because that will be a tool used to make sure I reached all key points of my argument for my essay. It will allow me to get insight from another point of view. It also tells me if the audience will fully understand the point I am trying to get across. Give me feedback to let me know if I need to select different references. As I complete my essay sometimes, because I know the point and what I am trying to say the message get lost or completed as my mind right down all the thoughts that is running through my head at that time. So, the feedback will allow me to look at it from another outlook and rethink the points that I have previously made.
