 Humanities works reflect the values, concerns, and ideas of the time period, geographical location, and culture of the author/artist. Another work, Picasso's 'Guernica' is a gripping sight taken in isolation by a modern viewer, but knowing the very specific historical context adds another layer of insight. Philosophical or religious filters of the creator's or subject's time or culture can markedly impact the significance of any technical elements as well (Storr, 1991). What cultural context was your example reacting to?
