Providing free college education to prisoners Education is something everyone has the opportunity to get. Even those who have made mistakes their whole lives deserve the opportunity to turn the page and start fresh. There are even people who have done nothing to end up in prison and should still have the opportunity to continue their lives and be able to succeed and have a family and social life. There are people who are in there for a slight misdemeanor and have to spend time in prison putting their lives on pause. Providing free education, in realitytax payers paying for their education, or the inexpensive route of volunteer work, will help lower crime rates, safety and wellbeing of the community, and finally works as a rehabilitation process. My readers are adults between the age of 18-50, that have never been to prison but might know someone who has or is in prison. Mainly focused on regular citizens, who live in urban areas, where there is a high crime rate so they know that even when someone messes up they have a chance to pick themselves up again if they choose to do so. The terms should be simple for people who do not get much education so they do not feel bad or less than someone who has an education to understand the reason as to why they need free education. A formal academic tone would be simple to reach, just because you are explaining it in simpler terms does not mean one has to sound informal or less than what they have the ability to sound like. Educational essays do not have to be lowered in language because they are for people who do not have proper education. The United States prison system is built for punishment rather than rehabilitation. It is expected that people be locked away and to have just learnt their lesson. The goal of imprisonment should not only be punishment, isolation, but also rehabilitation and education. For prisoners to be able to be a productive member of society when they are released, they need some guidance. Education is vital to them, as education is vital to all members of society. Education opens new doors helps people gain new perspectives. Using education in the rehabilitation process for prisoners could be extremely helpful. The United States has a 75% rate of reincarceration within five years after release. Our incarceration rates are the highest in the world. It’s time to take a different look of our approach to incarceration. To lower this reincarceration rate, help prisoners get educated, give guidance regarding how to reintegrate back into society and make better decisions. Teach them about resumes, financial responsibility, budgeting. Education can give people hope. It can give prisoners purpose other than being locked up. They can find things they are passionate about and enjoy learning. While given real life skills to succeed outside of prison.Starting with education, discussions about other rehabilitation programs in prisons can be considered. All with the goal of preparing prisoners to be productive members of society. To continue their education, to get a job, and not turn back to drugs, stealing, violence, or gangs. This can be done through counselling, volunteering, prison work programs, church services, community service. But it all comes down to giving the education and knowledge for prisoners to make good decisions when released.

ALL statistics must be directly quoted, as well.
