Financial Statement Analysis - Project - Need it in 16 - 17 Hours

To incentivize you to keep up with the work, as indicated on the syllabus, I’ll be collecting and grading as part of your final project, (via Blackboard) Parts 1 and 2, before the third and final submission. All dates are listed on the syllabus.

For this Part 1, with your team, perform the following tasks regarding your company and its closest comparable competitor:

(The Company I Selected is Qualcomm and their main competitor ( You have to find this information, I was thinking about IBM, please use IBM if it suits, else find a suitable competitor))

1. Describe the companies, brief history (most important events only), current leadership, corporate governance (board composition – insider vs outside directors) and significant events.

2. Describe companies’ industry and business model – identify major components of the revenue.

3. Download the transcripts of the most recent quarterly earnings call and report back top 3-5 issues that analysts were interested in and how did the management address those issues.

4. Download, for the last 5 years, annual balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements and statements of shareholders’ equity (for both of your companies).

5. Common size balance sheets and income statements for all 5 years, for both firms. Discuss relative performance of companies’ revenues, costs, profits (gross, operating and net), and balance sheet items’ account changes (significant ones).

6. Compile and discuss the history and direction of P/E and P/B ratios (as of dates of your financial statements). What does this analysis tell you regarding these stocks being value, growth…

Please submit two files on blackboard (under assignments, Part 1 of the final project bin) – please name the files using your team number designation. The first being work doc which will end up being your final report, and one excel file, which will contain statements and analysis.
