In Chapter 4, Walsh & Sattes (2010), write that the key to using these strategies effectively is to use the data gathered from formative practices to reflect on and provide high-quality feedback that guides future teaching and learning (page 102). Formative assessment and feedback dramatically impact student learning.

This week focuses on assessments and feedback to encourage critical thinking. Discuss the following: 

• What type of feedback did you receive from your teachers, facilitators, or fellow students when you were a student? Was it effective? 
• What are the characteristics of effective formative feedback? 
• How can students self-assess and work together to monitor their progress in learning?
