Faculty in Service: College and Career Readiness

Abstract

A counselor interacts with school administrators, parents or teachers to not only support all students, but also promote a college as well as career-going culture. Career development theory is a lifelong cycle of development experience that concentrates on processing, seeking, and acquisition of information concerning educational alternatives, lifestyle role, and options, occupation as well as self. Theories that describe career behavior are an avenue for career intervention, counseling, education, and guidance. Studying career development theory is a cornerstone of differential psychology relative to work and occupations. It is also critical for understanding a personality with a focus on the individual as an organizer of his or her own experiences. Its sociological aspects encompass occupational mobility while developmental psychology as its last core area refers to life courses. With a focus on teaching college and career readiness as well as the role of the school counselor, this paper examines career theories, models and framework with a closer look at the American School Counselors Association, ASCA National Model. Additionally, ASCA’s Mindsets and Behaviors, and components of college as well as career readiness according to National Office for School Counselor Advocacy, NOSCA is a focus of this paper.
