In this assignment, examine how Tannen and Brooks use logos, pathos, and ethos to shape the reader's thinking. First read David Brook's "Honor Code" and Deborah Tannen's "His Politeness is her Powerlessness." Because these articles "speak" to each other in some ways, it is helpful to consider how they are using logos, pathos, and ethos to deepen your understanding of audience and how these authors have composed different kinds of pieces written for relatively general audiences.
