CrossFit: Healthy Lifestyle For All

Introduction: CrossFit

The discourse community that I have been involved in the for the past few years involves around

providing an awareness of the benefits of engaging in CrossFit. “The sense of community at Cross fit”

(The Power of the Crossfit Community, n.d.)a feeling I want everyone to know. What began as an outlet

for my own personal gain turned into a passion of sharing the benefits and involving communities as a

whole into a healthier lifestyle. The process of finding a group was not hard at all, as it seems that I was

able to find a gym almost at every corner, what I did find interesting was just how few go out into the

surrounding neighbor to provide training and possible recruitment for members.

After a long search I found a gym with individuals with the same set of common public goals as

those I wanted to achieve. This group made it a priority to create work outs and training schedules that

could be performed at the local parks and courts at almost no cost to show that everyone was

welcomed regardless of financial status and physical ability. This group thrived on reaching as many

people as possible in the community. With a creation and use of a map as the reference suggested, we

were able to visually display our short term and long-term goals and how we hoped to reach them as

well as who was responsible for what.

Description: CrossFit

The discourse community has grown from about 20 of us to about 40 adults and teenagers that

that hope to achieve the same goal. Th wide variety of people make it possible to reach a wider variety

of audience. We understand that certain people prefer women, the younger audience tend to join if

they see other kids and certain instructor speak specific local languages. The diversity in its people also

brings a variety of different workouts that benefit the team a while keeping us engaged in new routines.

In today world we are able to reach many others thru the use of social media and video creations to

reach those that cannot attend our free classes. Social media has been a blessing to not only teach

others but send messages to the members and distribute future plans.

This community which has been around for the last 2 years even though CrossFit has been

around for a many more years has been blessed with the ability to travel to other countries to provide

to others in hope that they will begin their own discourse communities within themselves. To date we

have seen and assisted in the up brining of 5 additional sub discourse communities. An amazing

reminder that our message is being heard and accepted.

While the community as a whole understand that there is so much work to be done, this is a

secondary voluntary position we are only able to meet three times a week. As individuals we take the

time for ourself and our workouts. A reminder of how we each came to love this world we live in and

participate in. There for me try to meet up at the home gym and make our way to the local parks and

fields and provide free classes. Thru the distribution fliers like the ones attached community

participation has increased week after week.

Conclusion: CrossFit

So many may ask why do we do the things we do. Why do we spend hours making training plans

and Workout Of the Day (WOD)? Simply as stated before to bring awareness and acceptance to create a

healthier neighbor where the changes start with the parents and become routine with our children. I

want to my kids to learn that there are many things that can bring communities together for a greater

good. More importantly I want my kids to see that Cross fit is breaking the barriers where we can all be

healthy and get n shape virtually for free.
