Evolution of Instructional Leadership

 

K–12 leaders are typically responsible for curriculum, teacher instruction, and student achievement. Leaders in higher education are typically responsible for curriculum, faculty, and program effectiveness. 

Prepare an overview of instructional leadership and its characteristics and roles in schools. 

Review both historical and current peer-reviewed literature on instructional leadership.

 

• Summarize the historical development of instructional leadership.
• Describe the organization and leveling of contemporary schools. Address K–12, K–14, K–16, magnet, charter or career college, community college, college, and university settings.
• Describe contemporary school programs. Address dual enrollment, advanced placement, virtual learning, ROTC, adult education, first-generation, or distance education. 
• Summarize effective leadership strategies for educators. Explain how the strategies benefit teachers and teacher leaders.
• Explain the importance of the identified strategies for leading teachers and faculty.
