Evaluation Argument Essay

For this argumentative essay, evaluate the effects and/or implications of a thing: technological device, service, activity, or trend. Ideally, this should be something that you are familiar with based on your own experience and/or observations. There are many, many possibilities including:

a household technology like the microwave oven

an online service like Netflix or Spotify

an online activity like internet shopping

an older technology like bicycles

an activity or trend like group yoga 

a social or communication technology like Facebook or texting

a community-specific trend or activity

This essay should be 800 words, using a clearly established and supported thesis and topic sentences. Readers should be able to understand the pros and cons of your chosen subject, as well as the priorities and relationships between them. There is no required number of sources, but chances are, in order to make your evaluation detailed and well-supported, you'll need to rely on outside information and others' arguments, at least in part. This essay should demonstrate understanding of academic language and argumentation, which can be demonstrated through the use of multiple forms of appeal, consideration of opposing viewpoints, and demonstration of audience awareness.
