Ethnology of Africa
1) Using what you've learned about politics, conflict resolution, and the organization of state and stateless societies, how did the pre-colonial Igbo govern themselves? How were politics conducted? How did the pre-colonial system of governance compare to the governance deployed by the colonizers (Britain in this case) at this time. Use examples to support your points.
2) How does education advance Christianity among the Igbo people, and vice versa? In what ways was the traditional religion and worldview changed by the arrival of the colonial government and the missionaries?
Who were the first converts among the Igbo?
This is important because it was generally the way Christianity took hold in Africa. It was almost never the elites who converted first. Who was it, and why?
