Ethics

You will need to choose a specific current ethical issue to discuss and use at least one of the ethical theories we have discussed to analyze your chosen issue. What I’m looking for is for you to attempt to make some sort of forward progress on a contentious (disputed) issue by using what you have learned in this class. That could be as simple as explication (explaining why group A thinks the way they do about issue Q – for example: because they are using consequentialist reasoning), or prescription (using an ethical theory to show that we ought to do X in relation to problem Q) or even as complicated as arguing that the existence of several issues shows that relativism is a reality or that the differences in answers shows nihilism to be true. You could even try to propose a resolution that everyone ought to be able to accept because a theory demands it (like “Hey the social contract demands that we do X or not do Y thus, since we are part of that contract…).
