Ethical Persuasion
- According to Stone Watt and Barnett (2011), "The primary goal of persuasive speaking is to influence an audience’s beliefs or behaviors so that they can make necessary or positive change" (p.14). Yet, persuasion, as Nazism sadly proves, has likewise been used in History to persecute, torture, or exterminate human beings due to their origin, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion... What can you do, as a speaker, to use persuasion ethically?
