NPR had a piece on Providing Therapy Across Different Cultures. When immigrants face depression, therapy may not be the first option they explore for relief. When they do seek counseling, they often encounter a cross-cultural struggle to understand and be understood by American practitioners. Listen (or read the transcript) to the following piece and begin to think about your own understanding of ethics.
Do you believe ethical principles are universal or do they differ among cultures? What are the ethical principles that are raised when different cultural communities interact (again, think of multiple definitions of multiple cultures)? Link your thinking to the readings and the videos, connecting them to your personal experience.
