Essay on Wharton's Summer

profilevmateo2397

For your first written assignment, I am asking you to write a summary/response of one scholarly essay about the novel Summer (in two typed double-spaced pages).  Summarize the critic's argument (in one page) and then respond to it (in a second page), by agreeing or disagreeing with further evidence from the actual book.

I have just looked at the MLA database, and there are about 60 listings for Wharton's Summer. Some very good essays that are accessible on the MLA database  are those written by Gary Totten, Meredith Goldsmith, Pascha Stevenson, Barbara White, and Nancy Walker. (There's also an interesting one on _Summer_ written by me for the _Edith Wharton Review_ back in 1990, I believe.  It is accessible through the MLA database link  that takes you to the journal.  Don't all choose that one, though!)
