Purpose and Description

Your aim in this paper will be to analyze an article, advertisement, menu, or cooking show episode and examine what strategies the author/advertiser deploys to achieve his or her rhetorical objective.  Please consider the following as you undertake this assignment.

Invention and Inquiry (Preliminary Research)

· Select  either an article, advertisement, menu, or cooking show episode;

· Explore  the context in which the item was published (author/advertiser, publication source and platform, publication date, socio-cultural and political environment, etc.)

· Analyze  according to rhetorical methods discussed in class, with particular emphasis on the author’s argument/aim and evidence, use of language and/or imagery, meaning and context.

· Make  notes about the ways in which the author/advertiser deploys rhetorical strategies to achieve a particular objective.

The Composing Process

· Compose  a paragraph in which you introduce your article or advertisement;

· Present  the findings of your analysis based on the foci discussed in class;

· Draw  a conclusion based on your analysis.

Specific Requirements

Your paper should:

· Focus  on an article, advertisement, menu, or cooking show;

· Analyze  the article/advertisement/menu/cooking show according to a specific rhetorical framework;

· Include  a title;

· Be  3-4 pages in length (double-spaced, one-inch margins, 12 point Times New Roman or Garamond typeface);
