The transportation and logistics management systems are key to global trade and national defense, but they are very sensitive to political and geopolitical decisions. Trade policy, economic sanctions, infrastructure investment decisions, and international relations changes can greatly affect the cost, speed, and reliability of cross-border transportation of goods (Liu and Fu, 2024). Nevertheless, most organizations still develop their logistics strategies based on efficiency and cost minimization without paying due attention to the political risk. It is a fundamental weakness because any geopolitical interference can stop shipments, shut down routes, and disrupt whole chains of supply with minimal notice.

The interconnectedness of the modern logistics systems implies that a political act in one part of the world can create a ripple effect and influence the operations of other parts of the world. The conventional logistics planning processes lack adequate frameworks in the prediction or response to such politically instigated upheavals, leaving organizations reactive and not proactive. With the ever-growing geopolitical tensions and the shifting of the trading environments, the necessity to have a comprehensive knowledge of the impact of the political factors on TLM has become an urgent one. This research will examine the key political and geopolitical factors that affect transportation and logistics management and propose strategic models that companies can employ to create more resilient and adaptable supply chain operations.
