Assignment Directions:
Using the information from this week's reading material, submit an Annotated Bibliography of five (5) sources from your working bibliography. Two (2) of the sources must be peer reviewed articles. First, put the source in the correct citation format for your particular field of study, and then write a brief annotation of that source. The annotation should describe the main ideas covered in the source as well as an evaluation by you of the source's usefulness for your project. The value of the source to your project should be included, as well as information about the credentials of the author(s).
Remember that an online source can be a number of things. It can be a book, journal article, blog, podcast script, website, government report, newspaper article or editorial, or something else. Be sure to analyze each source carefully and follow the style guide in presenting the needed info. One goal in your annotation is to help your readers find the source if they want more information, so make it easy for them to do so.
Your final paper must include a minimum of seven (7) sources with at least four (4) sources coming from peer-reviewed journals taken from the APUS library. Please note that you are encouraged to include all four (4) of your sources coming from peer-reviewed journals taken from the APUS library in this annotated bibliography. However, at least two (2) of the sources for the annotated bibliography MUST be peer reviewed.
Both MLA and APA styles use a hanging indent and double-spacing for each entry at the end of the paper. Please be sure to check your work with a current style guide, such as those in the APUS Library.

Calkins, Lucy. Raising Lifelong Learners: A Parent's Guide. Reading: Addison-Wesley Longman. 1997. Print.
Lucy Calkins is a noted teacher and researcher in reading and writing. Her book is a guide for parents, helping them to work with their children's schools to create a positive learning environment and a lifelong love of learning in their children. Topics covered include fostering learning and curiosity in mathematics, science, social studies, reading, and writing. Calkins' work also offers advice on school curriculum and testing. By providing specific examples of parental involvement, this book will help support my assertion that parents need to play a strong role in their children's education.

Research Questions, Thesis Statement, and Rhetorical Analysis
Research Questions:
Question 1: How does the leadership style of a youth sports coach impact athlete performance and team culture?
Question 2: What role does positive coaching play in the long-term development and mental well-being of adolescent athletes?
Question 3: How do communication strategies used by coaches influence athlete motivation and player retention in competitive youth sports?
Thesis Statement: Effective youth sports coaching requires a comprehensive approach that combines transformational leadership, positive reinforcement techniques, and clear communication strategies to foster both athletic excellence and psychological resilience in adolescent athletes.
1. What is my purpose in writing this paper?
The purpose of this paper is to conduct a review and comment on the complex dependency between coaching practices and the growth of athletes in youth sport, specifically in volleyball. Being an active volleyball coach, I also intend to combine the already available knowledge and best practices with an aim of proving that considerate coaching practices can have a dramatic effect not only on the performance of a particular athlete but on the work of a young athlete in general. Within the frames of this paper, I intend to educate coaches, sports administrators, and parents on the ground-based coach practices that concern not only winning but also the well-being of the players. To raise such a question as leadership styles, positive postulates of coaching, and the effectiveness of communication converge, my desire would be to propose a sound argument that will explore an even more favorable method of coaching among the young in sports. My reading will be centered on the empirical study, theories of coaching, and practice that will combine the theory and the practice in a way that will move to the conception of leadership and transfer to the practical implementation measures.
2. What is my prior knowledge of my topic? How do I feel about this subject?
As a volleyball coach, I have been in a personal position to witness the drastic disparity in the involvement, self-confidence, and performance results among athletes due to the pricing strategies of coaching. I understand that even today, authoritarian coaching models (albeit outdated by now) are not always conducive to attaining the intrinsic motivation required to foster athletic development in the long run. I have a rather enthusiastic and professional attitude toward this topic, which is proven through observation. Personally, I think that sports activities among the young people should be taken as a character building, resilience, and acquisition of life skills, rather than just being anxious about winning and losing. However, I also understand the conflict between the necessity to adhere to the rules of the competition and the necessity to offer young sportsmen a psychologically good environment (Van Tuyl et al.,2024). I believe that under the condition that they are informed in their practice, I will adhere to these purposes, which, however, I do not deem mutually exclusive, but complement each other. The level of knowledge that I have now implies that I am well informed about the various coaching models, principles of psychology of the athlete, and how teenagers develop, yet I realize that I still need to further my level of knowledge with the help of systematic research.
3. What do my readers know already? How do my readers feel about the topic?
My target group would also include such people as fellow coaches, educators, sport psychologists, and parents, possibly well-informed or not aware of coaching pedagogy in one way or another. Many of them may be personally engaged in the youth sports, as players or coaches, or parents, and may be dragging their own preconceptions and experiences into the topic. Some of the readers may be conservative in their views and believe in the significance of winning being the most important factor, whereas the rest of them may be more sophisticated in their minds in terms of athlete-based coaching. It is possible that such people do not believe in the fact that positive coaching styles can ruin the competitive advantage or sportive discipline. Furthermore, there is a likelihood that some of the readers may be on the defensive side when they feel that they are being criticized about coaching practices which they are undertaking, or they have undergone in their respective situations in their sporting life. In order to reach this diverse audience, I must be capable of providing evidence in a manner that is persuasive, and at the same time, the aspect of standards and training of athletes to be in a position to participate in high-level events must also be put into consideration.
4. What does my readership need to know to get my point?
In order to enable the readers to understand my point, they need some background knowledge of various important concepts. Firstly, they are supposed to know how to distinguish several different types of leadership in the coaching plan, particularly the transformational and transactional approaches, and how these approaches apply to adolescent athletes who have diverse needs, unlike adult athletes. It should create awareness in the reader about the psychological weak areas of adolescent development, placement, peer relations, and susceptibility to stress and anxiety. They should also be familiar with the fact that positive coaching does not mean eliminating the structure, discipline, and high expectations, but they are expected to create growth-oriented environments that are neither demanding enough nor too permissive (Whitmore and Gaskell, 2024). Besides, the reader is supposed to know that retention and sustainable growth of the athletes is more likely to be useful in success indicators than instant competitiveness within an athletic backdrop, especially in the case of young sportspeople. The most important consideration to make in comprehending how the strategies of communication have an impact on the motivation of athletes and their self-efficacy is the neurological and psychological impact of coaching, linguistic, and feedback processes.
5. What do I need to research and include in my paper?
To support my argument, I will need to conduct some intensive research on several disciplines. First, I require empirical studies that would examine the association between some coaching leadership styles and performance, as well as psychological measures of performance relating to sports performance. To provide a theoretical background to my arguments, I must study the models of positive youth development, the self-determination theory, and the transformational leadership theory, which are two of the developed models of coaching. Research that will be important in supporting the aspect of mental well-being within my thesis will be psychological research on sports, particularly those that can explain the importance of mental health of adolescents in competitive sports. I also need to acquire the level of retention of athletes in different coaching approaches and longitudinal research that tracks down the former youth players into adulthood and determines the effects of the same. Case studies of successful youth sports programs that provide the best practices would be presented in the form of concrete examples.

I really like how thoughtful and intentional your approach is, both with the research itself and with how you handled sources. Your focus on demand-driven forecasting and inventory management feels super relevant, especially with how data-driven retail has become. It also shows a strong understanding of what plagiarism actually is—not just copying text, but also unintentionally mirroring structure or phrasing. That awareness goes a long way.
Your strategy of synthesizing ideas from multiple sources instead of leaning too heavily on one is a solid move and definitely strengthens your analysis. I also appreciate your honesty about paraphrasing being an area you’re still working on. The steps you mentioned—taking notes in your own words and stepping away from the source while writing—are practical and effective ways to improve. Overall, it sounds like you’ve built a strong foundation for ethical academic writing and are continuing to refine it.
Do you think working with peer feedback or using paraphrasing tools could help you further develop your own writing voice?
