English Essay

The essays “Sports should be Child’s Play” by David Epstein and “How Soccer Explains the American Culture” by Franklin Foer discuss how young people are encouraged to be involved in sports. Among  the arguments they touch upon are 

•how a sport can reflect cultural and political divides.

•the idea that parents choose certain sports for their children based on social status.

•how wealthy parents offer their children advantages like private lessons and coaching.

As we discussed in class, the movie “The Blind Side” is based on the true story of a wealthy family who adopt a poor African American boy who later becomes a pro football player. 

As you watch the movie, think about whether some of the points made by Epstein and Foer about culture and sports relate to the Tuohy family and explain your views in a 1,100-word (3-4 pages) response essay. While this essay reflects your opinions and experiences, it must also include evidence from the two essays which have to be cited both in-text and in a Works Cited page in MLA format.
