Module 5: Poem Analysis
In this course, students learn how to hone their writing to articulate their arguments better, conduct research and evaluate sources, record their research in an academic paper, and deliver their findings in a presentation format. In the assignments in this course, students will demonstrate what they have learned by selecting a research topic, choosing your sources, developing your argument, writing a research paper, and delivering a final project.
Assignment 1 – Poem Analysis
1. This assignment analyzes a poem by answering some questions about its elements. Read and hear the poem "Perfect" by Maia Mayor Available at: https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/perfect-160/Links to an external site.
2. In a WORD document, answer the following questions:
1. Identify the title and the author.
2. What is the main theme of the poem?
3. What is the mood of the poem?
4. What is the tone of the poem?
5. Identify five literary devices present in the poem.
Example: At sunset, the beautiful colors of the clouds swirling in the sky amazed me. (imagery)
Grading Criteria
· Quality of presentation of the substantive issues demonstrates an understanding of the topic and knowledge of the topic
· Writing level: writing is clear concise, and arguments are logical
· Citations: appropriate use of relevant sources

· Submit your assignment by 11:59 pm ET on Sunday.
· Contribute a minimum of one page. It should include an answer to all five questions.
