Due Date for DB6: Please post your initial response by 11:59pm on Saturday, 12/5.

Assignment: For DB6, pay careful attention to the “settings” in Toni Cade Bambara’s “The Lesson” and answer the following questions:

• What details in the story suggest the time and place in which it is set?  
• Are the very different locations central to the story? 
• If the action occurred in one or the other, but not both, how would the story change? 

Your response must include:

• An introduction where you mention the text and the author of that text along with your hook, lead-in sentences where you answer question #1 from the list above, and a thesis statement where you identify the role of the setting in the story. (4-6 sentences)
• A body paragraph where you defend your thesis claim and answer question #2 two from the list above with direct examples from the story. (5-7 sentences)
• A concluding paragraph where you answer question #3 from the list above. (3-5 sentences)
• Parentheticals for your chosen story. You do not have to include a works cited.

Guidelines for Completing Discussion Questions: Your response to the assigned discussion question should be at least 250 words in length. Failure to complete all parts of the assignment or submitting underdeveloped answers will lead to point deductions. This discussion question response is due by 11:59 p.m. on its assigned due date.
