Assignment 6. Scholarly Apparatus I
From weeks 6-9 you will be preparing a a Scholarly apparatus for an extended Research Paper. You will NOT be writing the actual paper, but you will be preparing to do so.
Purpose: To explain the topic you have chosen for your final research paper and why you have chosen it
- Choose a topic for your final research paper.
- Write a topic proposal that is 1-2 pages long. It should answer the following questions:
- What is your proposed topic?
- Why you are interested in this topic?
- What do you already know about the topic?
- What do you need to know/don't know about the topic?
This week's task: A 2-3 page Proposal that sketches out a topic that you will develop over the next few weeks. This Proposal will be 2-3 pages in length. It will include
- Introduction and rationale: WHY this topic
- Brief overview of possible topics and a 3-point THESIS
- 3-4 paragraphs that develop the thesis points
- A conclusion indicating what might remain to explored
- an introductory bibliography
- Plan of action: who are you writing for
- At least two citations per paragraph
- References page: At least three references from IGU Sources (JPEG upload)

Please note.
- In academic writing, the following style points will deduct from the marking:
- Dummy subjects (there is, it is)
- Unnecessary use of Passive Voice
- Pronouns (I me we us you your; unsupported ambiguous pronouns this, that)
- Rhetorical cheerleading: (I believe I think I feel, clearly, obviously, etc)
Your Essay will be reviewed by Unicheck, the plagiarism tool synced to Canvas. Unicheck will submit a similarity report a few minutes after you post your assignment. If the similarity index is above 30%, please redo and resubmit your assignment after you cite the sources properly to avoid plagiarism.
