Parent and Community Engagement Plan Assignment Instructions:
NELP 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 PSEL 3b, 3g, 8a, 8b, 8c Overarching Question: How can we engage diverse families in and out of school to strengthen a vision and mission committed to student learning? Overview: Candidates will complete a SWOT analysis of family-school partnerships that support the school’s vision, mission, and related improvement efforts. To complete your analysis, confer with at least one member of your school staff and one community member. The SWOT graphic provided will help frame your thinking and guide the process. Candidates will create their own graphic that captures the 4 elements of their SWOT analysis. Along with the graphic analysis, candidates will submit a 3 - 4-page narrative that describes the strategies for improvement based on alignment with Joyce Epstein’s six types of parent involvement and how specific links to student learning will be reinforced and supported. Candidates will also provide details explaining how potential “threats” will be mitigated. The final assessment shall include the following details:
1. All 4 elements of your SWOT analysis presented in your graphic. 2. Strategies for improving family and community partnerships based on Joyce
Epstein’s 6 types of parent engagement. 3. Details that explain how your strategies for improvement will strengthen the
connections between parent engagement and student learning. 4. Explanation of how potential threats will be avoided or eliminated. 5. Indicate the contributions of your staff and community member throughout your
analysis/assessment. 6. Include the essential question you will be answering or analyzing.
