Week 4: Assignment 4. Comparison/Contrast Essay: setting topics side by side

Your task will be to compare, AND contrast, two topics of your choice:

Your essay will have three points of comparison (likeness) and three points of difference. For example, your essay could compare and contrast two aspects of the current American election, a pair of celebrities, or some other interest you may have.

Your draft (500-650 wds) includes the following elements 

  • thesis statement with three 3 points
  • 3 points of comparison; three points of dissimilarity or contrast; a conclusion
  • Specific textual evidence supporting your view, cited and referenced (at least TWO citations per paragraph, with appropriate references.
  • UNDERLINE THESIS

Please note.

  • In academic writing, the following style points will deduct from the marking:
  • Dummy subjects (there is,  there are, it is)
  • Unnecessary use of Passive Voice
  • Pronouns (I me we us you your; unsupported ambiguous pronouns this, that
  • Rhetorical cheerleading: I believe I think I feel, clearly, obviously, etc)
