Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Reference the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Reflect

  • Before drafting your initial      post, take time to reflect on one of the paragraphs in your paper. Does      your topic sentence in that paragraph support your thesis statement? Is      the claim in your topic sentence fully developed in the rest of the body      paragraph? Think about your topic sentence’s claim and how you will add      credibility to your writing. 

Write (due Thursday, Day 3)

  • In 200 to 300 words, share one      of your body paragraphs. Your paragraph must include a topic sentence, one      direct quote, and one paraphrased passage. Integrate both of these      elements into your paragraph using proper APA in-text citations. In a      final paragraph, provide the original text that you are paraphrasing.      Include an APA-formatted reference list for the sources noted in the body      of your paragraph. 
  • In a separate paragraph, 
    • Explain how your topic       sentence supports your thesis statement.
    • Explain how the quoted and       paraphrased material supports your claims and/or adds credibility to your       writing.

Guided Response (due Monday, Day 7)

  • In 125 to 200 words each,      discuss and critique the paragraphs of at least two of your classmates. Please      analyze and discuss the
  • Use of APA formatting.
  • Integration of the direct quote      and paraphrased material.
  • Questions and concerns      regarding the development of the paragraph and topic sentence.
  • Substantiate your ideas and      suggestions with specific examples from your classmates’ paragraphs and      the assigned reading materials.
