Emergency Management
Part1
Analysis of a press conference
Find via the Internet a video of a real-life press conference conducted immediately preceding or during an emergency incident. See for example, one of SC Governor Nikki Haley's press conferences during Hurricane Matthew in 2016 (do not use this one for your post, though).
View the press conference and note whether and how the individuals and organizations involved provide information via the press conference. Consider the concepts we have studied so far in this course. Provide an approximately 250- to 300-word post that describes the press conference and in what ways you consider it was successful -- and why, and what improvements you would recommend. Include the name of the jurisdiction or organization providing the press conference, the incident involved, and a link to the press conference video.
Part2
Since today, September 17, is Constitution Day, we should note and celebrate the signing of the U.S. Constitution 2030 years ago. As an optional assignment, please take a few minutes to browse one or more of the resources below and read at least one article or amendment of the Constitution that interests you. Think about the relevance of the Constitution to your work, your life, and responsibilities in emergency management. What are the key purposes of government? How does the structure set out in the Constitution affect the practice of emergency management? Keep in mind that when reading the Constitution, the language has been revised in some places or deletions made based on amendments ratified by the states.
