Consider professional references you might use when applying for a new position or job. Think of the types of people who would make a good reference (avoid listing parents and their friends). Now prepare a professional e-mail requesting that the individual write a letter of recommendation for you.

Remind your prospective reference of when you met or worked with him or her or when you were a student in his or her class. Give any particulars of your relationship, and do not assume that the potential reference remembers you. Write a professional e-mail to the individual requesting a letter of recommendation, and be sure to use all required headings in your e-mail.

(My prospective reference will be my former boss as Loan Servicer - her name is Sharon Wilson )
