1. Read Burden and Byrd, Chapters 3, 4 & 5 and view the “Planning and Designing Instruction” and “Teacher Centered Instructional Approaches” powerpoints in the “Learning Activities” folder. What distinguishes teacher centered instructional approaches from student-centered approaches? What instructional strategies are commonly used in the direct instruction model to engage students in learning?

2. Read the Article: “9 Ways to Plan Transformational Lessons. Which of the 9 ways to plan transformational lessons did you connect with and why?

3. Read through the Teacher’s Guide to Flipped Classrooms. How might the students benefit from this model of teaching and learning?  What are the downsides of flipping the classroom? Locate an example of a flipped classroom video from the flipped video repository in the learning activities folder or search online for a video that relates to a subject area and grade level that aligns with the credential you are seeking. Describe the video you watched and include the concept being taught, grade level, approach used to teach the concept, as well as how you might use flipped videos in your classroom.

Go to the Understood.org website and read about assistive technology. What is assistive                  technology and how can it help students with special needs function successfully in the classroom? Click on and explore the links to assistive technologies for reading, writing, math, and listening comprehension. Select one tool to review. What is the tool? How can students benefit from this tool and how you might use the tool in your classroom?
