Writing Assessment Prompt 2 - Understanding Student Academic Data and Creating Action Plans (10 points)
Due End of Week 3
Each writing assessment prompt is designed to focus on one specific aspect of this course. It is an opportunity to explore the topic in depth in a narrative response that integrates practical experience, research, and reflection. In your response, be sure to include at least three scholarly research citations, and one of those must come from the required course text.
Focus: Analysis of Student Achievement Data
Role: You are the building principal for a suburban middle school grades 6-8 with a diverse student population of 900 students.
Problem: Your school has seen a consistent decline in academic performance in 7th grade math scores on the state assessment. ( Note: This data does not consider the COVID constraints or environment. It is designed to reflect three typical academic years.)
Prompt: Respond to all the guiding questions below based the data provided in the chart below. Create a 400-500 written narrative that clearly and comprehensively addresses all questions.
Guiding Questions:
· In general, what skills and knowledge are required for effective data collection, analysis, interpretation, and application? Support your answer with at least three (3) research citations.
· How would your school accurately measure the effectiveness of the given instructional practice given this data? What conclusions would you draw from this data?
· What would be appropriate follow up actions steps given this data?
· In your school setting, what skill gaps currently exists in the areas of data analysis and intervention planning? What action steps would you recommend as the building administrator?
· What resources are available to address these gaps among the school’s personnel, the professional literature, Web sites, or the community? How would you leverage those resources to address the achievement concerns?
