Exploring a Research Question
Directions:
By the end of this assignment, you will have crafted a clear, focused, and researchable guiding question on a topic within the scope and context of any element of Assessment and Measurement.
Follow these steps to complete this section effectively:
Step 1: Topic Exploration
1. Choose a broad topic that relates to one of the key themes within the scope and context of any element of Assessment and Measurement.
2. Research the topic using at least 3 credible sources (academic journals, reputable industry reports, etc.). Focus on current trends, challenges, and debates in your chosen area.
3. Keep notes on recurring themes, questions raised by experts, and areas that seem under-researched.
4. Develop a list of at least 5 key insights or patterns you've found from your research.
Step 2: Narrow Your Focus
1. Based on your exploration, narrow down the scope of your topic. Identify a specific issue, trend, or challenge within the broader theme.
2. Reflect on the following:
· What specific aspect of this topic interests you the most?
· What questions remain unanswered in your research?
· Which areas seem to have conflicting viewpoints?
3. Write a paragraph (100-150 words) describing your narrowed topic and why it is relevant to Assessment and Measurement.
Step 3: Crafting the Guiding Question
1. Now, transform your narrowed focus into a researchable question. This question will guide your entire paper.
2. A good guiding question is open-ended, specific, and researchable. For example:
3. Instead of: What is the role of assessment in education? Try: How have digital platforms transformed assessment strategies for K-12 institutions over the past decade?
4. Ensure that your question aligns with the key themes of the course and reflects the current dynamics of change and innovation in Assessment and Measurement.
5. Write your final guiding research question (1-2 sentences), along with a brief (50-75 word) rationale for why you chose this question.
Submission Requirements:
· Submit your responses for steps 1-3 in a Word document.
· This assignment will be assessed through Turnitin.
