The Hidden Curriculum
The hidden curriculum as defined by Nuri-Robins et al. (2012) entails,
- School structure, climate, and culture influence learning
- Intended and unintended instructor behaviors
- Adults’ behaviors that may differ from espoused values
- School structure that may not reflect all cultures (p.33).
Although the hidden curriculum is not typically seen in a positive light, Nuri-Robins et al. (2012) argue that teachers and educators (in general) can find a way to value the hidden curriculum by understanding what it includes. In doing so, they assert that teachers can construct a hidden curriculum to support diverse learners.
Construct your hidden curriculum for your current or future work setting. Include a sample of the resources, materials, and actions you would provide in your educational environment, and then explain how these components will build a community of trust.
