Editing and Revising Paragraphs with Sources

It can be difficult to put information from outside sources into your own words. Sometimes it helps to hear from a reader.

Step 1: Share one paragraph from your essay where you included information from an outside source. Please also share a link to the source that your used.

Step 2: After you share your work, explain to your classmates what you need help with and why. Here are a few questions to consider:

  • When you put information from your research in your won words (paraphrase or summary), do yo use too many of the original words from the source?
  • Did you put quotation marks around direct quotes?
  • After you share the information from your source, do you explain why that information is important and how it supports your position?
  • Do you provide a citation for the source in your paragraph?

Step 3: Help a classmate improve quotes, paraphrasing, or summarizing, so that sources do not overshadow their ideas. How can they apply SWS formatting correctly?
