ED5570: Week 9 Discussion 2: Access and Equity in Higher Education

While acts of Congress and U.S. Supreme Court rulings have opened the doors of

higher education to women and minorities, debate continues about equitable access to

opportunity and the disparities in degree completion rates across various groups.

Increasing costs and the burden of student loan debt are also issues of equity and

social justice in higher education.

For this discussion, identify the legal and structural reforms that have advanced access

and equity for a group of your choice such as women, racial or ethnic minorities,

persons with disabilities, or low-income students. Explain how institutional practices

have enabled or hindered access and equity.
