Since we will be spending considerable time examining the ancient Maya in a few weeks, I thought it might be fun, appropriate, and helpful to have you discuss this amazing culture that flourished in Central America.  Remember, we have been discussing how key institutions (e.g., religious, economic, social, military) may change as societies become larger and more complex.  I want you to conduct a little research and comment on any of the Maya institutions that you find of interest! Does it seem consistent with a complex “state” society?  What do you find of particular interest and why?  Or what appears exceptionally different from the non-stratified societies we’ve discussed?  Have fun!
