Consider the value of numbers in research, treatment goals and outcomes. The use of numbers is a quantitative way of measuring achievement and defining success. Quantitative methods include surveys, questionnaires etc. Qualitative methods in research include interviews, focus groups and direct observation.

What are the limitations of using numbers in the human services profession i.e. what types of things can’t be quantified? 

Provide examples where a qualitative approach might be more effective in identifying and addressing a societal problem. Be specific. Give examples.
