 Boot Camp for juveniles have evolved from their counterparts in the adult criminal justice system. Boot Camp is another resource that was created to help juvenile make better choices. The video, Juvenile Camps, mentioned they are designed just to help young teens. By doing so, they take away the kids from the environment they were in so they can show the kids there is more in life. They provide education such as college and trades. They teach the kids things that will benefit in the civilian world. Kids could have a successful journey during the boot camp but what happens when they leave and go back to the real word. Participants reported positive short term changes in attitudes and behaviors. They become better at handling serious situations and coping skills. 

Some people will say boot camp doesn't work because the kids today does not have respect. The kids lack in disciplining. While being disciple in boot camp the kids are force to listen but when they go back they feel like they are back in control. To them boot camp was a place to do time to get over with. Some leaves boot camp with a positive attitude where the other half goes back to committing the crimes they were doing before. 

I believe taking a juvenile to boot camp could change their behavior and attitudes but putting them in a different environment away from the previous one before could help them become successful. For example, an high school student goes to boot camp and get the proper education and attitude towards school. He graduates and has the option to go to college and leaves. By not staying in the same neighborhood, he has the knowledge to be someone in life. By going back home and staying in the bad neighborhood could result him going to jail or to the grave. I think the San Deigo Boot Camp program help these kids to not make that choice. Providing them with the education and trade can help them stay out of trouble.

 The juvenile camp that they show in the video covers all the good at which comes from the camp. One of the officers talks about how they have a person come in and teach them trades of some sort. The camp offers all kinds of programs to help the juvenile to be less likely to end up back in the same position. The problem is though the good mainly only comes from while the juveniles are in the camps once they leave however, they are exposed to the same elements to at which caused the juvenile to offend. The reason that some do believe that the camps work is since the juvenile does get help in many ways and they do have someone to talk to.

However, after researching the reason that people are saying that these types of camps are ineffective. The major reason that people believe that the camps don’t work, is because once they are released from the program, though they have programs to help them once they leave they are still put back into the same environment at which had caused them to commit the juvenile act. The article I found talks mainly about the good and the bad of one of the camps in Illinois that has a history of changing juveniles while in the camp, but once they leave most go back to their old ways. The author states that the major reason for juveniles to end up back where they started is because they have been inserted back into an environment at which has not changed since they went into the camp (Kethineni 2012). The article states that even though most do go back to the old ways, for some it is the other way around they may turn their life around and get away from those types of influences; however, the ones that are more successful at this are those in camps for the smaller juvenile offence or those who see what they have done as a stupid mistake (Kethineni 2012). After researching it is clear why there are mix thoughts on if juvenile camps are effective and why some believe that the camps are ineffective.
