Fiddler on the Roof is one of the most successful American musicals ever written and a classic of the American stage. The original Broadway show opened in 1964 and was the first broadway show to surpass 3000 performances. Indeed, it held the record as the longest running Broadway show for nearly ten years. It won nine Tony awards and was made into a successful Hollywood film in 1971. It has provided us with some of the most-recognizable tunes in the American popular canon including Sunrise Sunset, Matchmaker Matchmaker, and If I Was A Rich Man. Your written response requires a critical assessment of the show which means that you need to engage with it and critique it (whether positively or negatively.) You need to consider it as we have been considering the creative arts throughout all our discussions and presentations in class this semester. The response must be a minimum of 500 words.
