question

What can be done to motivate managers to ensure transfer of training?

 Student response

First, it is important to know what the transfer of training is.  It refers to trainees effectively and continually applying what they have learned in training to their jobs (Noe, 2017).  There are a number of things that can be done to motivate managers to ensure that the transfer of training is completed.  But the number one thing is incentives, which help make a positive environment.   Also, shorter training increments, application assignments and interaction with trainees can motivate managers.  Consequences and feedback, or rewards and incentives, should encourage trainees to apply on the job behaviors they have learned in training (Garavaglia, 1993).  In turn, this will create motivation for the managers, knowing they are being effective for the organization and not wasting their time.

The transfer of Training is very important for organizations to ensure they are getting the most out of their training budget.  They must show that all training is improving productivity so that funds will not be cut.  The transfer of training must be a focus of all managers; they must be innovative with their learning techniques and design a training that a variety of personnel can retain.
