This week, you are required to answer only one of the following discussion post questions. You should indicate if you chose Option A or Option B in your original post. Please note that you will need to watch both required videos in order to respond to your peers. Option A: Culture and Choice in Women's Reproductive Rights
Melinda Gates in her TED Talks lecture, Let’s Put Birth Control Back on the Agenda (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., makes the statement that many of the world’s social change issues depend on ensuring women are able to control their rate of having kids. Using concepts from Gates’ lecture and examples from the textbook, discuss the value of culture versus individual choice in practices of abortion, surrogacy, and female genital mutilation.

Option B: The Impact of Globalization on Women in Non-Western Cultures
In their respective talks, Shabana Basij-Raikh and Kakenya Ntaiya discuss the education of girls in Afghanistan and Kenya based on their own personal journeys. These two stories are based on cultural changes spurred by globalization and speak to the importance of education and opportunities for women. In your post, discuss how the videos and readings have influenced your perception of globalization. Do you believe the impact of globalization and economic development on the status of women in non-Western nations has been largely positive or negative?
