Doing Social Psychology (Discussion)

Our textbook authors, Myers and Twenge (2021), start off talking about Cinderella, a popular folktale. They then deconstruct the message into two versions of the folktale. For many of us, folktales represent some of our earliest moments of understanding how the social environment impacts individual attitudes, behaviors, and ways of thinking. Think about the folktales you know and the messages or wisdom they communicate as you discuss this week’s topics.

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words: Answer both parts of The Discussion Starter:

• Which folktale has influenced how you think and relate to others as a child, adolescent, or even young adult? You may, also, choose a children's movie or a childhood book for this discussion.  What lessons or influence did the story have on you? Explain your answer with an example.
• What is a question, related to social psychology, that you would like to have answered by research? This question should be a question related to a concept in social psychology, not related to your chosen fairly tale. State the question and describe the steps you would take to answer your question.
