The three most important rules or steps in media buying in my opinion and from the text and lecture would be target market, the company’s objective, and the budget. I choose these three due to the fact that if a company does not know what target they are trying to hit then it would be a lost cause. I think the target group should be the most important part of any advertising plan and should be any company’s first decision. “A description of the target market using one or more of the four “ics” (geographics, psychographics, demographics, and behavioristics) is provided and can typically be obtained from a company’s marketing plan” (Ogden, 2014). With the target market the company will also know the target audience and this will help with deciding which median to purchase, what hours, and how often.
With the target in mind then the company’s second most important decision to me would be the objective of the ads and what the company wants to accomplish from the ads and what messages are they wanting to send to the customers. What is the advertising supposed to do for the company and how the company wants to get the customers attention and win their business? This is the only reason any company would be spending money on advertising is to help their customer base, make the company look reputable, and to make money.
To me the third choice is very important also which would be the budget and that depending on how much the budget is or how much the company can afford it to be would determine the type of media used, how often, and even the hours of the day that would be used. As stated in our lecture with so many choices available, which media might be the most effective in attracting an organizations targeted market, there can be several difficult decisions to make. Also the budget would determine not only what medium but how much the company could afford to pay for the bright lights, vivid colors, or should they scale back and maybe use a cheaper route or would that cost them the goals and objectives that they want to reach. I think the company would have to decide if they are on a tight budget to either go first class and less spots, or cut back on quality and go for quantity.

Walmart is a retail company that runs commercials in the United States, Mexico, and Asia. The main norm that you see from all countries is that it speaks to each audience in their primary language. It would be unethical to run an Asian advertisement with an English voice in the American language. The American Walmart advertisement identifies with the American culture by showing kids going back to school wearing popular superhero t-shirts such as superman and batman while playing American rock music. In the Asian ad, the women wore kimono robes which is a traditional clothing for them to wear.
In the Mexico Walmart ad, the company is trying to persuade people to purchase big screen televisions and cellular phones from out the electronic department. “Institutional advertising promotes a company or organization instead of a specific product or service. Institutional advertising is used to build or enhance an image or reputation, promote goodwill, advocate a philosophy, or create awareness of an organization” (Ogden & Ogden, 2014, p. 4.1). In Mexico it is a culture norm to look at the FIFA world cup, which is why Mexico national FIFA team was displayed in the advertisement in the electronic section at Walmart. Also, in all 3 ads, individuals from outside of the culture were not used, which means there were no Mexican people in the American ad and there were no American people in the Asian ad.
