OK, now you have Yojimbo, the "Spaghetti Western", and Tampopo in your cultural understanding and imagination banks.

Also, did you notice that Tampopo is.... a frame tale?! Just like Arabian Nights and all those others I mentioned! But wow, how many different levels of story worlds are there? I count at least three I think, right? Is there a fourth? Answer if you can, but focus mainly on this:

Tell us about the Samurai and/or Western elements you noticed in Tampopo, and then tell us more about what Tampopo has to say about life in the 20th century of business, fast-paced consuming vs. contemplative appreciation, etc.
