  A leader must be able to plan, organize, and have control of the people who they oversee and the mission of the organization.  “To improve a criminal justice organization, a leader must be able to ensure that all members of the department are competent and adhere to the highest standards of integrity and ethics” (Vito, 2020).  Leaders must develop a departmental mission, vision, goals, and operational objectives if they want to succeed not only as a leader but in life.  Leadership is the ability to lead by example.
