Discussion: Punitive versus Therapeutic Approach

Determining whether a punitive or therapeutic approach is the best solution for the individual and the community is difficult. As helping professionals working with individuals within the criminal justice system, we are often placed in the position of clinician, advocate, and server of the court.

Post an analysis of the McDonald (2014) article on Shanesha Taylor, including what you feel would be the best course of action for this mother and her children. Should she be given a jail sentence? Should her children be taken away from her? Identify the biopsychosocial issues in this case. What would be your recommendation to the court?
