Initial Discussion Question responses (Due every Saturday of the week at 23:59): Neither initial nor peer responses will be opened up after the discussion questions close (the week the questions are closed). To ease requirements during this class, all discussion questions will be open from the first day of the semester, but will close on Tuesday at 23:59 the week after we finish the module.  Check the syllabus for further explanation/expectation of module closure. A single discussion question (lowest grade) will be dropped at the end of the semester.  All responses (initial and peer) require proper in-text and end of text citations.

All discussion questions for weekly class discussion question credit will require that you will provide an initial answer to ALL weekly discussion questions by Saturday evening of the assigned week (no later than 23:59). This initial response should equate to 500 words, and have a significant contribution to the weekly topic and should include 1-3 (in-text) cited sources with a reference section properly formatted in APA 7.0.  You will only receive a notice for the Saturday due date, but it has three components - the Initial response due Saturday, and two peer responses due by Tuesday at 23:59. This initial response counts for 50 of the 100 points for the discussion question prompt.

Part 2 (Due by Tuesday of the week at 23:59)

You must complete 2 significant peer responses per week by Tuesday evening at Midnight to receive the full credit for the weekly discussion questions (again by 23:59). These peer responses should equal another 500 words. Peer responses should also have 1-3 (in-text) cited sources with a reference section properly formatted in APA 7.0. These peer responses each count for 25 points of the 100 points for the discussion question prompt. Discussion questions are not an excuse to attack an individual for their beliefs.  If you do not understand a persons position, ask questions, gain perspective, then provide an educated response.  Disagreement does not mean that an individual is wrong, just that they have a different perspective.  Different perspectives provide us the ability to be objective in our thoughts and provide better service to our clients.

In text and proper Citation (in APA 7.0 format) counts for 10% of your peer and initial response, incorrect use of, exclusion of, or improper formatting can count up to 10% of your weekly Discussion Question response.  Please use the official APA style guide to assist in creating citations, use of a non-APA style guides will not be a reason to to relook (or regrade) your posts, many websites are someone’s interpretation of the official style.

If you have questions, contact the instructor, remember the instructor has 24-48 business hours to reply to you and does not typically check email over the weekend.

Discussion questions cannot be made up at a later date - Once they close, they are closed as the content is relevant to the module/week they are assigned in.

1. File permissions exist in every operating system.  Will all systems interpret the file permissions the exact same way?  Why or why not? Explain in 3-5 sentences.
2. Explain how you see and understand attacks from the attackers perspective, specifically how you see privilege escalation attacks?  What must an attacker do to accomplish the privilege escalation attack?  Explain in 3 -5 sentences.
3. From your reading and independent research, identify how you might have seen (or noticed) a privilege escalation occur?  Where would you see this in Linux? In Windows? Or in an application itself?  Explain in 3 -5 sentences.
4. Let's get (talk about) physical control of files, identify best practices to help you control/store your files.  Did you did identify methods to secure/backup your files?  What media do you consider to be most important in your decisions to backup and store your media?  Do you consider which storage to be most efficient? Why?  Explain in 3-5 sentences.
5. "Due Diligence" is defined as what is supposed to occur, while "Due Care" is what you actually did to find out if anything was actually wrong.  Due negligence is what you as an organization or individual are liable for by not conducting the appropriate level of investigative efforts.  How do you see your responsibilities in conducting research?  Is it different when you are conducting research for yourself or for an organization - do you see yourself owing more responsibility to your self or your organization?  Explain in 5-10 sentences.
6. Locate a history on Windows (make you go back to at least Windows 3.1/3.11 for home users, or Windows 3.51 for office users), track it through 16, 32, and 64 bit versions.  Let's talk a mouse, when and which versions introduced them?  Was it part of a major revision, an update, or a service pack?  Explain if it is something you would have voted for?  Why do you think it took so long to get the mouse or other key features? Could this have been added earlier?  How? Explain in 3-5 sentences.
7. How do you see a businesses needs as driving both the privacy and security afforded to organizational files? How does regionality storage play a part in file storage? Could an organizations place of organization (incorporation) play a significant role in how the organization sees the worlds of both privacy and/or security?  Explain in 3-5 sentences.
