Advocacy is a foundational component of advancing equity, inclusion, and access for individuals with disabilities across systems and settings. Drawing on course materials and your professional or lived experiences, critically examine the role of advocacy in the disability field.

Address the following:

• Significance and Context: Why is advocacy essential in the disability field? Identify and analyze at least two persistent or emerging issues affecting individuals with disabilities (e.g., access to healthcare, employment disparities, educational equity, systemic bias).
• Applied Example: Describe a specific example of advocacy (personal, observed, or researched) that resulted in meaningful change. What strategies were used, and why were they effective?
• Strategies for Impact: Evaluate key advocacy approaches at the local, national, or global level. Which strategies are most effective in creating sustainable change, and under what conditions?
• Digital Advocacy: Analyze the role of technology and social media in modern advocacy efforts. What are the benefits and limitations? Include at least one example of a campaign or initiative and assess its impact.
  • Collaboration and Systems Change: Discuss the roles of individuals, organizations, and governments in advancing disability advocacy. How can cross-sector collaboration strengthen outcomes and promote long-term systemic change?
