One would think that an expat would need no motivation in their current job. For an employee to move to another country on the organization's request should be a sign that the employee is highly motivated and sold to the vision and mission of the organization. However, expats and their families do need motivation when difficult challenges arise in a host country.
Consider an expatriate and a local host country employee working side by side.
1) What compensation issue would come to mind when comparing roles?
2) What are the compensable factors to consider for both employees performing the same job?
3) Next, think about employees in China versus France. Should the techniques for motivating employees be the same from country to country? Why or why not?
