Discussion: HIM Professionals & Ambulatory Care

 Ambulatory care in the US and even globally has expanded and continues to grow due to advances in medical technologies, diagnostic and therapeutic methods, and the efforts in managing diseases and preventing hospitalizations. Yet, presence of HIM professionals in ambulatory care settings is significantly less than in acute care settings. How do you see the role of HIM evolving from the perspective of ambulatory care? What differences do you see between the job of an HIM professional working in a hospital and an HIM professional working in a select ambulatory care setting?
