 Let us explore appropriate use of the medical system and abuse of the medical system. When should an individual go to the emergency room as compared to their Primary Care Physician? There are forms of abuse on both sides of the stethoscope! At times physicians have been known to "Up-Charge" to increase their reimbursement from insurance. There have also been times when the standard of care, or care offered, to a given patient is different based upon the type of insurance, or even whether they have insurance. Individuals also abuse the medical system. Some patients seek services that are unnecessary as a form of drug seeking, either for personal use or to sell illegally. Some patients have allowed another individual to use their medical insurance information to receive covered services fraudulently. Seeking care in the emergency room for routine or non-emergent medical concerns is another common abuse.

As you can see, there are plenty of instances on both sides of the stethoscope. Remember to be respectful and professional as you discuss this issue.
